Clean Your Own Upholstery

I have been in the cleaning industry for over 10 years and I have seen some really bad upholstery. Here I will try to help by giving you some tips for keeping your upholstery from ever getting that bad.

The First Step

The first thing you want to do is go to your local auto parts store and pick up a carpet and upholstery cleaner made for your car. There are many different brands and I have tried most of them. They all work pretty much the same.

Second Step

Determine what kind of fiber your upholstery is made of. Usually you will find this info on a tag under the cushions. If it states that you have a cotton or other natural fiber blend use caution. In many cases and on most fibers you can use the carpet and upholstery cleaner from the auto parts store to clean spots with out leaving a ring around the area when it dries. To be safe always test on an inconspicuous area and let it dry before continuing. These products work really well on synthetic fibers very safely and gently. I have actually cleaned entire recliners and dining room chairs with them and had wonderful results. The upholstery dries fast and this is what I recommend for a do it your self clean or for in between professional cleanings on spots.

The Final Step

After successfully cleaning your own upholstery you will want to protect it from the daily elements by applying scotch guard or calling a carpet and upholstery cleaner to apply the suggested protector recommended by the manufacturer. This step will also save you a lot of money in the long run.

Fuel pump filter is a small, yet one of the critical components of your car. The purpose of having a fuel pump filter in a vehicle is to stop impurities from reaching the car’s engine. Now that you know what is fuel pump filter and importance of keeping it clean, you are all set to get started on cleaning it. But wait, do you know the process and order by which the filter has to be cleaned? If the answer is no, then the following section of the article gives you the step-by-step procedure on how to clean electric fuel pump filter by yourself.

DIY tips to clean

Locate fuel pump in the fuel tank

First, you need to figure out where exactly is the fuel pump filter is located in your vehicle. Usually electric filters are either located inside or close to the tank or at the back of the car – it depends on the manufacturer and model of the car.

Disconnect battery first

This is very important, first you need to disconnect the battery before you start the cleaning procedure because as it is an electric pump, any small spark can ignite the fuel.

Block the fuel pipes to avoid fuel gushing

As you have disconnected the battery, you need to stop fuel from gushing out of the disconnected fuel pipes. For blocking the fuel pipes you can either insert an old pencil, thin cocks or rubber bungs or something that is handy and can fit your fuel pipes.

Remove and clean all filters with petrol

Make sure all filters are cleaned by washing them with fresh petrol. Always use fresh petrol when cleaning the filters. Properly clean the filters; make sure there is no dirt or other contaminants.

Clean inside of the filter with clean rag

Now that you have washed the filters with petrol, don’t leave the filters drenched in petrol. Get a clean lint-free rag and wipe off the inside of the pump.

Check sealing gaskets

When cleaning the filters, check for the sealing gaskets and make sure they are in a good condition. If they are not in a good condition, replace them. Damaged gaskets would result in fuel leakage during its functioning.

Fix it back

Once you are done with the cleaning of filters, fix them back to their original position with the screws provided. Make sure you don’t over tighten the screws of the cover.

You can plan the cleaning of the filters according to the manufacturer’s maintenance schedule provided in the owner’s manual.

There Is Nothing Like A Clean Car To Make Driving A Pleasure

Everybody has their idea of a dream car. Sports cars, luxury cars and sport utility vehicles top the list of the most desired vehicles. Those cars also come with an enormous purchasing price, not to mention the price of maintenance and upkeep. Regular cleaning of the inside and outside of the vehicle is required to keep the gleam of the chrome, the shine of the paint and the new car smell.

There are a few reasons vehicles get dirty, other than just regularly driving around town. The exterior of the car can be affected by being outside, especially if it is not garage kept. The interior of the vehicle can become dirty and messy by children and other passengers, along with smoking and eating the car.

If the vehicle is out in the weather when it rains, it is bound to have rain spots and possibly mud on the exterior. It can get even worse when it snows. The salt and chemicals used to treat the roads often will damage the paint and clear coat if it is not removed soon after it gets on the vehicle.

Car washes are a very popular gathering after a long winter and after it rains. Most people would rather use an automatic car wash to remove the dust, dirt and chemicals because of the convenience and cost. However, most of them do not fully remove the contaminants. This leaves the owner frustrated and often looking for a better job cleaning.

The second choice for cleaning a car or truck is to do the cleaning themselves. The drive in car washes with brushes and soaps help remove more than the automatic car washes.

To get a vehicle thoroughly cleaned, it needs to be hand washed, inside and out. There are many places on the outside of the car or truck that cannot be cleaned very well, such as the under carriage. In order to make it look even better, the rims and tires need to be shined as well.

The inside of the vehicle has even more hiding spots for dust and dirt. There are a lot of cracks and crevices that need to be cleaned regularly in order to keep the car or truck looking like it did the day it was bought.

Some companies will go to where the vehicle is located in order to give it a good deep cleaning. Others have a shop that they do the cleaning and maintenance. There is a definite difference in taking it to a professional to have it cleaned than the owner doing it.

A sure way to keep cars, trucks, SUVs and even business vehicles clean is to take them to a professional that is trained in car detailing. It is often affordable and convenient and well worth the money. If taking the vehicle to the shop is difficult to do, ask if they have a mobile cleaning unit that can go to a place of employment or right to the owners home.
